It doesn't take much. I bought the 8 oz. kit and did two cars. I've still got enough dye to do two more. I didn't use the sprayer that came with the kit. I found foam brushes work real well. I'm not sure if it's cheaper to get the components separately. If you have cracks or deep scratches, you'll need the cream filler. Other than that, you'll need the pre-prep cleaner, the dye and the sealer. You'll be amazed on how much better it will look even after just using the cleaner.
I've done three tan cars and a taupe car. To my eyes, the colors are very accurate.
