air leak somewhere in dash vacuum system... Posted by Saabu [Email] (#1133) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabu) on Sun, 29 Mar 2009 14:49:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
on my 87 SPG, about 15-25 seconds after turning the engine off, while sitting in the cabin, i can hear a sound like a slow ticking and then a 'screeeeee' as the vacuum system loses it's vacuum. is this normal or should the system hold vacuum indefinitely?
i can watch the right-hand footwell servo arm move as this sound occurs, however the sound is coming from the central part of the dash in and behind the radio area, and i suspect its the one controlling the recirc flap, which is also the most difficult one to access.
FYI the recirc system works fairly well in that the flap will come up about 80%. the switch light turns green when depressed. Frankly i never use that system so i am not concerned about it.
all other vacuum lines are connected well to their respective servos so no leaks anywhere else.
question is, what if, any effect would this leaking servo have on engine performance or any dash component's operation?
and i've read of folks replacing this servo, but wow that's a total dash strip job - is it that critical to have this system working at 100%?
Thanks alot,
