Probably not fuel-related. Likely culprit is the ignition control module (failure then subsequent functioning is typical); close second guess is the Hall sensor, which, on your car, is located at the crank.
Ignition control module is bolted to inner fender, left side of car. See pic. Cheapest solution is a used one from a pull-a-part, but make sure you DON'T use one from a Turbo (they look similar but they ain't the same). Per eEuro, here's what's compatible:
Saab: 900 16V non-turbo 86-87, 90-93(and 94 convertible), 9000 16v 2.0 non-turbo 87-89
Volvo: 89-93 240, 740 all 85-92, 760 V6 87-90, 760T 85-90, 780V6 87-90, 780T 87-90, 940 all 91-95.
For this part, I don't trust cheap-o aftermarket stuff: just Bosch.
If it's the Hall sensor, search here: someone recently found a very cheap alternative to the spendy OEM part.
