As C900s are all at least 16 years old, there are more reasons for them to show up in wrecking yards, if they have not been involved in a collision.
Rust is a good possibility. If the state it was last registered in fails you for rust, this is a big possibility.
Transmissions: always a possibility, but look for other things. If the car is well taken care of otherwise, and NOT a turbo, and NOT an automatic, then its likely the manual trans is good.
Turbos: turbos aren't cheap to replace, and they often can be the reason a turbo is sitting in a yard.
ABS brakes: We all know that the master cylinder and valve block for the ATE ABS system is extremely expensive to repair or replace. Quite possible that is why the car is there.
Look the car over carefully, see if anything was written on the glass or paint that might give you a clue ("Bad brakes" on the windshield would be one).
Some of the u-pick-it yards I know have low enough prices its worth taking the chance!
