Back when I religiously went "by the book", and maybe a little to the extreme, I replaced them all every 30,000 miles. I also did complete 30k services (replace: t-stat, belts, cap, rotor, wires, plugs - NGK EVs - filters, oil...)
Book says inspect the belts every 30k, and does not, I believe, give a replacement interval, but the added fifty bucks or so on a $400 (parts only!) 30k service was well worth the peace of mind.
One word, though: I strongly recommend buying the Saab matched pair of alternator belts. Saab packages two that are the exact same circumference taped together. Get them from a dealer, or an indy, if they are still available. My mechanic gave me a pair of Continentals, which, while the right "size" on the package and belt, had distinctly different circumferences. The whole point of using two belts is so that both belts carry an equal load. If one is longer than the other, it's not carrying as much load...
