Sounds like a fuel pump on its way out, they tend to start to whine a little in the early stages of failure and then get louder as they get get worse. Try driving with the seat folded forard (assuming the car is 3 or 5 door) and also pull out the wooden liner from inside the back of the car, that way you will hear the noise much more clearly.
