Gage lights: Check the two plugs that go into the back of the instrument cluster to make sure they are fully plugged in an in the correct alignment.

Heater: I assume that your are talking about the cabin air flow controller since the heater controller only actuates a valve allowing antifreeze to run through the heater core. The air flow controller has both electrical and vacuum control components. Do a search on this board for the electrical connections to get them on the correct post (helped me not long ago for my 91 900tc) and make sure the vacuum lines are tightly plugged into the controller. If the little clip arms are not holding the plug on tightly you will get leakage and check for broken plastic hose receptors.

Next Two: The straws are guides for the long screws and are not necessary, but help in solving the re-installation of the screws.

Dead Battery: If the plugs aren't installed properly on the back side of your instrument panel then the idiot lights may not be working either and if your alternator is not charging, you wouldn't know. Because of the electronics in the car w/ a good fully charged battery and the radio & lights off you can only get about 40 to 50 miles out of the car once the alternator quits charging if you are on the highway.
