I remember reading a Saab history coffee table book (not sure which one) when our C900 was in for one of it's many trips to our indy... In it, they show model/prototype/concept body work for the new 900... I believe the year was 1983, and it is very very similar to the NG900/9-3... also note, the 9000 has a more "normal" layout under the hood, and that also predates GM... I believe the NG900 + 9-3 would have turned out pretty much the same without GM - just built on some other platform, not Opel...
Even the NG9-3 (in spite of many changes I don't love) is still a real Saab at heart... the Swedes seem to have done everything they can to keep their core values while under GM rule... I am very excited to see what comes in the future with a little more R+D freedom!
James...
