Zig,
I appreciate all the research for me. I also concur with your assessment. Most likely the source is the old, tired pump that can't keep up in the heat. Brake fluid is much mess than 40K, and fluid is less than 2 years old. Flushed the brake system last fall, so I can probably say that's not it.
Even though I've got a '90, my test connector must be in the rear by the ECU. It is not where it should be for a '90, next to the hydraulic unit. I'll look there.
Since the system does work without problem most of the year, and I agree the ABS ECU should not be overheating (top down, wind blowing :-) ).
I'll let you know when I find that pesky test connector.
One last question, the information on Townsendimports talks about using a jumper lead to pull codes. I assume this is to short the two pins together.... right?
