Punched out holes (they're square...) are from at least 1986 on. ALL 900s from then have them. I'm trying to recall if the 1985 did. A friend once had an 85, and he installed the Airflow kit (not the same thing...). I recall he drilled holes, but I'm not sure if that was because there were no square holes, or the square ones didn't line up...
Check your local home center. I seem to recall buying something that looked very much like the plastic inserts Saab gets $2 each for from one of them. Look in that wall of drawers of little fasteners.
