The question isn't so much about the come-along, but what is it attached to? So long as the come-along is rated for more than the motor & tranny weigh, you're fine on that score, but what is the rating of the branch/beam you're attaching the upper end to???
You can buy 2 ton Chinese made engine hoists for between $100 and $200 just about anywhere. Your warehouse stores (if you've a membership), your auto parts, department stores, Harbor Freight, etc. Since your 900 motor & tranny are well below the max rating of these things, you're pretty safe to use them.
