Well, Actually I used the come-along to pull the engine and tranny without a problem. It is rated at 2-tons, but after I pulled the drivetrain I noticed the warning about the unit not being designed for lifting and then wondered if I should get something else for putting the drivetrain back in. Dummy me for not reading it BEFORE I pulled the drivetrain. The come-along is attached to a wood beam consisting of two 2x10's nailed together with 1/2" plywood nailed in the middle of them. The beam is sitting on top of a wall on both ends which span 10 feet and it is nailed right above the studs in the wall (which are actually double studded there). I also added a support piece in the middle connected to the top of the roof peak. I am pretty sure the two 2x10's with the 1/2" plywood in the middle spanning 10 feet is enough, but I added the middle support just for giggles :-)
SO I guess I will use it again to put the drivetrain back in.
Has anyone else out there fabricated such a thing to pull their engines?
