SPG panels, dash, and bumpers...OH MY! Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 10:54:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am about to begin a complete restoration of my new-to-me 1991 900 SPG. The car is in phenomenal condition, but I want to get it to like-new showroom quality. The SPG panels are in good condition, but have a few very small scratches and minor blemishes. Can a body-shop recondition SPG panels or should it be left to someone else? Can they be repainted using car paint? I've never had a SPG before and the panels are one thing I know very little about, such as what they are made of, how to remove them, and how to make them look brand new again.
The dash has a few very small cracks near the speakers. Has anyone here used one of those dash cover things? I'm not talking about a carpet-like dash mat...I'm referring to the plastic dash top that you screw onto the top of the existing dash. I am curious to know how they actually look and if it is obvious that you just screwed a new dash on top of the old dash or if it actually looks pretty decent.
Naturally, the bumpers have a few very minor blemishes. What are bumper covers and how do they work/look? Can the bumpers be refinished? Are they painted?
I've been able to find just about every other part that I need, but I haven't been able to find a source for interior door panels. I imagine I'll just have to find a good parts car that I can pull some from. I need the driver side door panel and the driver side rear interior panel. These have mainly suffered from the seatbelt being in the wrong position when the door is closed.
Is there a source for new glovebox doors? I've been able to find a part number, but the actual part has been discontinued.
Please feel free to contact me if something here isn't clear. Thanks in advance for the advice and suggestions. Drive safely and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
