you use the rear glass defrost button.
as far as the slow rear glass defrosting, are there any frsoted spots in the defrosted area which would indicate broken strips? otherwise, it may be corrosion or oxidization on the wire attachment where it connects to the rear glass, so you could also clean/check that.
i haven't timed how long it takes for the glass to defrost, but by the end of the 10 min cycle time it's always clear. i'd hazard a guess that it usually takes 5 min to have a clear window area 2' high by window width.
