I did my ID job last fall on both sides. I installed a new ID on the passenger side along with a new CV shaft and tripod assembly(all from eeuroparts)and swapped the orginal passenger side ID with light grooves to the driver's side and reused the CV shaft and tripod on that side. The original driver's side ID had sharp grooves that were much worse than the original passenger side ID grooves so I decided not to swap it and bought the new one. I felt that the deep grooves would eventually catch or gouge the tripod bearing surfaces even though I was changing the leading edge. You can try the ID swap. If it doesn't work then you're in for some new IDs and tripods. Don't forget to only pull and replace one ID at a time to avoid resetting the gear inside of the transmission and make sure that you treat the large bearing in the hub with TLC when you tap the shaft out of the hub. My ID job eliminated the thumping, stomping and vibration problems on acceleration and going up hills. Swapping the original ID to the other side did not cause any thumping or vibration problems going down hills on engine hold back. When you have it apart, it's a good time to check your ball joints and inner tie rods. I hope that helps and good luck with your project!!!
