The fact it runs when cold and keeps running almost eliminates the hall sensor as the cause. The hall sensor is on side of distributor (actually inside). I am not sure if you are saying the starter will not turn over and start engine when engine is hot or that the starter is turning the engine and the engine won't fire. Anyway if your friend can find a can or 2 of computer dusting spray (the kind that freezes when used) he may be able to isolate the component that is the issue if the starter is not the issue (or perhaps even if it is). Next time the engine is hot and it won't start, have him spray these components in sequence after he has sprayed the component (part) and it doesn't make the engine start. 1. Distributor metal side where wires plug into receptical. Not the spark plug wires) 2. I think there is a spark intensifier in the left wheel well opposite a black plastic electronical box The spark intensifier is a small rectangle about 1X 2 inches or less and sits atop an aluminum base. 3. Spray the coil 4. spray the starter it's self. It may be binding. Also to help determine if it a spark or fuel issue. Before he cools any component have him remove for a minute one of the small vacumn hoses on the ingtake manifold. IT is the silver tubular item that the large black hoses go to from the air filter canister. Have him spray some starting fluid into the vacumn hose hole, then replace the hose and try to start. Thats enough for now . Get back with more info when you have it.
