Brake fade? or Hydraulic Fluid? or other? Posted by JLitten007 [Email] ![]() ![]() |
OK here is the project.
1990 SPG
Picked the car up 3 years ago. Put a used engine/tranny in last year.I was sold the unit with the story all was good..well syncro in 3rd gear was bad.
So i find a 91 t in Seattle. Runner, Car in good shape. cheap. Drive it to Spokane and it ran fine.So last week I do the swap.
Engine transmission are fine. need a little tuning but that will come.I did a 250 mile trip this past weekend and it seems to be holding it's own.
Anyway the brakes are doing something odd. When you apply brakes they work fine until your just about stopped. Then they kind of fade. you can feel the brake peddle kind of drop down just a bit in like 3 little pop, pop, pops. Peddle only drops maybe a 1/4 inch.
Happens right after starting to drive so don't think it's classic brake fade. feels like hydraulic fluid is bleeding away.
I bled the brakes today. (That's a whole another post.)
But that didn't change this problem much.
Car tracks fine on hard braking ABS lights power on then go off as should.
A power stop on pavement does not produce this problem. no pop, pop, pop
But slowing down normally does.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Also any Saab guys in the Spokane area?
Thanks again
