I have an '89 box built with the earlier intermediate gears to get the higher ratios. It's nice when driving hard (I can easily get over max stock boost in second whereas before I'd never be able to get max stock) but 4th and 5th are pretty close (5th gear is unchanged by the intermediates). I recently drove my 89T and a 90T back to back. They had the same box those years. Around town, I preferred the stock '90 to my tweaked '89 and wouldn't likely have the intermediates swap done again because they're a bit tall for just tooling around, even with more timing advance than stock. Then again, maybe I'm getting older and slower and do most of my driving in town these days; also, I have my notchback toy to play with when I want to drive for fun (though its 4-speed has its own issues -- too tall in 1st and, well, no fifth makes 70mph speed limits a bummer).
