Lifter noise in 86 SPG or what..............Help

So I have this lifter sounding noise, It just stared up one day.........so I took off the valve cover, I made sure oilers were in place ( new 2 months ago old ones were not bad)and checked the lifters, some had very little up and down play, some had no play and one had a lot of up and down play so I replaced it, noise has not changed. Ran car without valve cover on, noise did not get any louder? Checked oil pressure 50 psi at idle when warm and goes up from there when I drive. Checked exhaust manifold no air escaping, no bolts loose, but I'm missing one stud. I bought a mech. stethoscope and checked for noises under valve cover, very little noise from timing chain but noise coming from lifters? Can lifters be still bad even thou they still pump up? bad cam? bad valves? I'm at a loss
