air is more easily compressed than hydraulic... Posted by baggsly [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Did some reading, tz, Tue, 2 Feb 2010 19:05:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
fluid. air squishes first, then once squashed down, it will push on hydraulic fluid and the fluid moves. so if you have air in the system, for the same pressure applied, things at the end of the system move less. for example, you step on pedal, air squishes, fluid moves, and you get 1/2" of travel vs. 3/4" travel. NOTE, not real numbers used.
if you take the square plastic plug out of top of clutch cover housing, you should be able to shine a light onto the t/o bearing and watch it move when someone pushes on clutch pedal. try this first with the car off. then have them start the car (in neutral) and depress the clutch and put into gear and see if anything clangs.
the t/o bearing is flat where it engages the fingers, but if it had a gouge in the side a bent finger on the pp might be catching on the edge. i guess a bent pushrod might be holding back on slave movement until enough force is built up to overcome resistance and the t/o bearing slamming into fingers. just a couple of other ideas to check.
mark :-)
