tz,
If the car ran OK before, and the transmission was OK then I wouldn't read anything into the sound of chains moving. There is a hydraulic chain tensioner and if the car has sat for a few days it may have bled off and is allowing some extra chain movement. It wouldn't be that unusual to hear the chains a little even if the tensioner was pumped up. As the other guys said, there are pins which locate the clutch cover on the flywheel and they are a tight fit, you'll have to pry the cover off of them at which point the whole assembly, (slave, cover and disc), will move off center a lot, downwards if gravity has it's way. To slip it out you must compress the slave completely (if the line is still attached then open the bleed nipple to compress it) and then arrange the components to present the least possible total width while jiggling them up and out. It's kind of a Chinese puzzle box so just have patience and you'll get it.
