I swear by e-codes, having put them in an older 900TC I had, and I'm planning to put them in my newly acquired '94 900TC. The light patterns are much brighter and have much sharper angles to light up the right side of the road and the road signs.
US headlights fan out in a \_/ \_/ shape....e-codes have much more of a __/ __/ shape when you look at the light patterns. The lenses also help focus the light much more. Once you've seen e-code lights with H4 bulbs, US DOT lenses look like candles in comparison.
I put Scantech (DJ Auto, Taiwan made) in my first 900TC...bought them, didn't realize they were not European made. Initial disappointment that they were cheaper Asian parts, but they were still 10 times better than the US DOT Hella lights. One came broken, and I had to superglue the mechanism back together. It was fine after that, but still...definitely some cheap build quality.
I'm going to eventually put real Hella e-codes in this 900TC for sure.
Cheers,
Paul H.
