Agreed-the guides are all destroyed, that's a given. Posted by nicknick [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: almost broken chain, AaronG, Thu, 25 Feb 2010 15:37:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As Aaron says, you need the motor out to swap the guides.
Treat this as a blessing-the chain didn't snap! I would do the following, if it were me:
Pull the motor/trans, split the motor/trans, pull rear cover,Take head to shop for checking, install new chain, guides, maybe tensioner, reinstall cover (no gasket for timing cover), new HG, new water pump, new oil pump o ring+front seal, new alt bushings, new belts, new rear seal (behind clutch) plus any clutch components that look original (check Cmyles' list on tz's recent clutch post), take a real good look at upper suspension arm mounts, and drivers side motor mount, maybe throw in a set of brushes for the alt, and call it good for a while!
If you like pulling motors (like me!), don't do any of the preventative stuff-it will all be there waiting for you next time...
Good luck (lemonade from lemons...)
