You can remove the pump without separating the case. Obtain the bracket that holds the torque converter to the case and install it. Then remove the pans, pipes, valve body, chain and sprockets. Now you can unbolt and remove the pump while the torque converter remains in place and the case is intact. The bracket will allow the torque converter to pivot as the pump is removed so try to prevent that. There is an o-ring around the outside of the pump as well as the oil seal. You should make a stand to hold the transmission and get the Saab factory 'section 4, automatic transmission' service manual before you start. It's very tedious to work on these without a stand.
