as the cylinder rebuild may not last as long as a new unit. After the effort of extracting, deconstructing, repairing, reassembling and reinstalling, only to have the rebuilt possibly fail months from now versus years with a new unit, it seems sensible to go with new.
I've witnessed too many failed rebuilds to consider them cost-effective for my time.
I think a proper cylinder rebuild involves smoothing/re-boring the cylinder which may compromise that chrome lining if you have an original cylinder. Also, if the cylinder DID suffer some problem (like small pitting effects) it will entail a lot of work to remove those flaws.
And since you're replacing the master, now's a good time to examine the last time your slave was replaced. And if you're in there to replace the slave, why not the clutch and/or pressure plate and/or bearing?
I like to do the entire system as one complete replacement, buying and installing new everything (clutch disc, plate, slave and master and bearing and input shaft seal). That way you don't have to think about it for another four-plus years.
Though I have had my share of failed NEW parts, too. If forced to choose, I'd always select new clutch system parts.
Just my thoughts.
