E-codes were the de facto standard worldwide, with the exception of the United States (and sometimes Canada). For the 900, there were a couple of variations. First, cars from YM86 and earlier use a different headlight shell and are not fit compatible with later MY87- models. Second, headlight lenses differ in that cars sold in right hand drive countries have a mirror reversed beam pattern which unacceptable for use in the U.S.
In the lower inside corner there are codes stamped into the face of the lens. These codes indicate country of origin, beam standard (ECE or DOT), and drive direction (left/right). I mention this because there seems to have been some confusion, with people unfortunately buying RHD headlights by mistake. Get pictures before you buy. Caveat emptor!
