Yes, it might be possible that you damaed the slave if it was "rough" to get it in there.
If the pressure plate is depressed and secured properly, the whole package should slide in fairly easy even though with little finess used.
Did all three bolts that holds the slave get tightened properly or did you strip the threads on any of them? If so, it will not work and you have to get it out and repair the threads in transmission casing.
Even with a perfectly executed job, you will have to pump the clutch pedal some 30-40 times after bleeding until you get a hard pedal.
But if you have a fluid leak it is something that is wrong.
