Hi,
I share Williams pain. I too just bought 92 900t convertible with an oil leak which the owner said was the P/S. I thought no big deal. Overnight it left a 12"+ diameter puddle under the engine bay and another 4" puddle about mid-ship on the right side. After investigating I have 4, here is what I found.
1. Drain plug, replaced gasket, sweet, no more 12" puddle. Now I just have smaller drops.
2. Drain tube, just in front of the left rear tire, oil is fresh and clear. I traced this to the rear passenger floor. After removing the rear seat, I found clear traces of fresh oil that soaked into the carpet. I mopped this up as best I could and the leak seems to have stopped but it seems to be from the covertible motor (the tank is empty). Is there anywhere these are prone to leak? Should I be looking for cracks in the plastic tank or the lines/hoses?
3. Front of the engine bay, there appears to be a tube that connects to the turbo, is this a cooling line? There is oil on the tube, mostly where the steel tube joins a rubber hose but not sure where it may be leaking. It connects to the turbo via a steel tube and then it connects to a rubber hose as it goes to the other side of the engine bay. Do I need to replace the steel tube? Rubber hose? Both?
4. The last one seems to be in and around the power steering unit. There's not much visibity so I have less insight into what may need to be replaced. Any thoughts?
I'm excited about the car but the leaks will temper my pride of ownership.
