WaSaabi, I have the same issue with an 93 convertible that I recently acquired. I took it out to have the car painted and reassembled it and it still works the same way as yours; I can only open the trunk by turning the key to the right. I brought a spare assembly from a 94 convertible that I have and showed it to someone at Saabs at Carlisle. We discussed it for a while and thought that possibly the lockset had been disassembled and reassembled 180 degrees out. I have not attempted to fix it yet.
