i would say just go ahead and cut one down. You don't have to use a hacksaw-i used a disk cutter/grinder. it doesn't have to be pretty! Of course, when it comes time for a new bottom pulley, you'll be glad to have it.
I try not to have anything to do with the slushbox, and don't recall if there were any access points for getting a screwdriver on the flywheel/flexplate.
Things are great here, the weather finally 'woke up', and the lake is fine!
