Ok - looks like we got two people with similar problems.
First to SISteve - might be your Hall sensor (crankshaft pos sensor) too it's in the distrib for both of your models I think.
The neutral safety switch is on the driver side of the trans lever housing -
it looks like

The safety switch won't let the car crank if it's not in P or N (remember - this is for automatics only), usually when they go out they'll let you start in the wrong gear though.
But let's do a little triage on these cars first. If a car won't start - then it is mechanical, electrical or fuel.
Mechanical - does the starter engage and turn the engine over?
Fuel - do you smell gas in the exhaust? or have a friend spray starting fluid into the intake as you try to start it - if it seems like it's trying to start then, it's probably fuel.
Electrical - check spark by pulling a plug wire and seeing if you get a spark jumping to the block when the end is held close. I actually use a spark testing tool for this - they're cheap.
Run those three checks and then we'll talk about the results. For instance, could be a bad switch or a bad Hall sensor if elec problems.
Best wishes, Buck
