A/C Frost Valve - Adjustable?

This is on a 91 900NA. A/C still running on R12 and used to cool really well. Stopped working in May and found that the frost valve was not working. Replaced it with a new valve yesterday and A/C is working again but now does not cycle off when I get close to freezing temperatures. I got down to 27F on my way to work and A/C ran the entire time, whereas in the past it would cycle on and off at around 40F. I did insert the temp probe from the valve in the heat exchanger in the same location as my old frost valve. Any suggestions before I take it out again and bench test it in the freezer? Is there an adjustment I should have made??
