pumps brake pedal several times to build pressure and then holds pedal down. the second person then cracks the bleeder on whatever corner they're at and the pedal person follows the pedal down to force air out. pedal person holds pedal down while bleeder person retightens that bleeder.

bleeder person has a tight fitting clear tube coming off the bleeder into a jar filled partly with brake fluid. the purpose is twofold. a) prevent air getting back into system thru bleed screw when it's open. b) enable bleeder person to see air bubbles coming up thru fluid in jar so can tell when air is out and only fluid going in jar.

bleeder person then checks master cylinder reservoir to make sure fluid level is ok and tops up if necessary. it's a good idea to keep the fluid level topped up so you don't run risk of running low and introducing air into system. if you do, you do the whole process all over again.

repeat the procedure at the same corner again. then move on to the next corner in the sequence described in the book. as already stated, the circuits are diagonal, so the sequence is important to follow.

once you think you're done, go around once more and do it again to make sure you do have air out of system. when done, stand on pedal and see if there is any squishiness on first application or sinking with constant pressure. squishy you still have air, sinking you have air and/or a leak.

take car for a test drive on an empty street and ta daaa you're done!

make sure to keep brake fluid off paint unless you don't like your paint job. use flare nut wrenches so you don't round off corners on bleeders. make sure you clean area around bleeders before loosening them. keep dirt out of the system. use fresh brake fluid, it absorbs water from atmosphere over time and loses efficacy.
