yeah, baggsly is right: the starla cat back kit from eeuro cost me less than a muffler would cost locally. I decided to replace the cat as well (car barely passed emissions last time + old cat was rusted at back end so bad last time, they had to weld the straight pipe to it). The cat I've got now is a bosal. In retrospect, I would probably rather have got one shaped more like the oem cat, maybe a magnaflow?
The whole process was a fairly big diy ordeal for me because I had to replace the heat shield as well, which is a lot of work to do properly. If you don't need to keep parts of the old exhaust, just cut the bolts at the cat with a dremel. only takes a few minutes + you want to use new bolts anyway... bolting together the new exhaust is not hard, though some fussing is required to align things right + get reasonable preloading of the hangers. In the end, the starla is a good fit (afaik it is oem), though my muffler is pretty close to the rear heatshield (my fault I assume), it seems ok. Cat rattles a bit against the heatshield at idle I think (there is a rattle up front, and the bosal cat is kind of wide for the Saab heatshield, about 1/4" margin, both sides, was the best I could get). That car gets a decent amount of vibration up front, wouldn't surprise me if a motor mount needs replacing...
overall, it's not too hard, just a bunch of dirty grunt work lying on your back... hardest part was getting the system adjusted nicely... saves a bunch of $$, if you have time, space + some basic tools...
