If it's the updated style that isn't a fixed length, then pull all three bolts and tap with a hammer to shorten the length. Some penetrating lubricant will help. If it's the older style fixed length, I loosened the upper column mounting bolts and pushed up on the steering wheel until I had enough play to get the top ujoint free.
