proper method of clutch bleeding with power bleeder?

Guys, I just finished swapping in the manual transmission and clutch components. I can only get the slave to move out about 5mm. I still have the spacer tool in the pressure plate. With the clutch depressed, I can only get about half of the spacer tool to wiggle out- obviously the clutch hydraulics aren't developing enough pressure to move the slave out further.
What is the proper way to use the eeuroparts pressure bleeder?
What I did was fill 1/4 way with brake fluid, attach to reservoir, pump to 10 psi, and then pumped the pedal slowly, with the slave nipple open 1/4 turn. This didn't develop ANY pressure.
So they I tried something else. I had the same setup with the bleeder, but had an assistant push down on the pedal, with the slave bleeder closed. When they pedal was depressed fully, I opened and closed the slave nipple to let the brake fluid out. Then closed the nipple, and had the clutch pedal let back up. I repeated that about 20 times, and it got the slave to move about 5mm. Some pressure, but not nearly enough. The clutch pedal only has resistance right at the bottom, when it gets near the floor.
Am I doing this wrong? Thanks for your help.
