Major props to Frank Meyers and the SaabNet Community Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Tue, 12 Oct 2010 19:39:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just a follow-up to a prior post downthread... The 'Bay auction did not go at all well-- $100+ worth of new parts with a mere $25 starting price, auction ended at a whopping $26, but that's the nature of the beast, I guess. A front crank pulley, oil seals, etc aren't exactly like Faberge eggs or other kitsch sold there, for which there is a steady market. I needed to have the ad placed at a time when someone really, Really, REALLY needed the parts, and last week apparently wasn't that time.
My disappointment quickly passed, however, when I saw that our own Frank Meyers (presently posting here as SaabStalker.akaFrankMeyers) was the winning bidder. A small bit of consolation, knowing that the parts would be going into a good home/Saab, but it gets better-- Frank had placed an automatic bid that bumped it to $26, with a bid limit of $55 on the auction items AND THE GUY COMPED ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE AUCTION PRICE AND WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A REASONABLE COST FOR THE PARTS AS PROFFERED!!
I've written Frank via private email a note of thanks and appreciation, but wanted to share the story with the wider community since it exemplifies, to me, the essence and virtue of this community we share. Let's be frank (generically speaking, not 'Let's be Frank', he's got the monopoly on that turf): $25-$30 isn't gonna make or break me, but every little bit helps these days. More importantly, it typifies the nature and character of the folks I've read, posted with, and in a few cases even met, that inhabit this virtual space. Coming so soon on the heels of all the help I received (posting as swoody) from the C900 board during my recent FrankenSaab build (a complicated but ultimately successful 3-car auto-manual tranny swap), Frank's good spirit and generosity has pushed me past the tipping point and I have renewed my paid membership in SaabNet (hence the shiny new TSN logo by my new old name above-- looks pretty good, eh? Don't touch it, you'll leave smudges!).
Anyway, thanks to Frank and to all in the SaabNet community and allow me to close with one final sentiment-- Now that I have a well-running C900 and have rid myself of at least some of my excess parts baggage, I hope that I never have to post here again; I'll keep lurking and offer suggestions when I think they might be useful, but I hope to be trouble-free for at least some time. It's very nice to KNOW that help is just a few clicks away in the event that status changes.
Scott (aka swoody, and presently ka Arabiflora)
