The Saab Classic 900 auto trans usually has a very short lifespan unless it's been well maintained so I overkill maintain one of mine that's an auto. In addition to dropping the pan, changing/cleaning the pickup screen quality shops can hook up a machine that circulates new fluid until it's completely flushed. If you did have this done and the shop wasn't all that familiar with early Saab's make sure they know that these particular auto trannys us Type F auto trans fluid! Also a C-900 auto is rather low geared so while driving at freeway speeds you'll be thinking where is high gear but don't let it bother you as the early Saab engine is bulletproof so the extra engine RPM's aren't a problem. I love mine for short hops but for real long distances the low gearing can be annoying plus the fuel mileage isn't very good especially if it's a non-turbo base or S model. If it's a 3 door with the rear hatch you'll love how much room there is especially with the back seat folded down. It does take some doing to keep these Classic's up to par but with all of our help here you and your "honey" can do most everything yourselves, I even send special tools back and forth to C-900 owners so they can keep their cars on the road inexpensively!
