No they shouldn't! They "are" under the starter but they should be under the intake manifold. - Sorry I'm being a smart-ass. But I have changed a starter on a 8V turbo automatic so I'm allowed to be a little bit of a smart-ass. :)
Seriously, I asked because changing the starter is so unpleasant and in my opinion there is no easy way to put a 16V in an 8V CIS car. I have a friend that did a 16V CIS but that is more time than I can spend on a hoopty. Also surgery on the wiring harness is no fun either (especially if you end up having to troubleshoot later on).
So I am sticking with an 8V. I thought the later 8V cars had the starter the same place as the 16Vs. But of course the 8V normally aspirated lasted until about 1986 (maybe later). So I was wondering if there was some market or weird configuration that would give me what I was looking for.
