iirc, both of ours have black dashes. the 1989 is buffalo gray interior. the 1993 is tan. if you are painting, why not avoid the reflections off the dash by using a matte paint? or a matte clearcoat? Saab was very careful to use matte surfaces around the dash to avoid glare... something they need to go back to imho (under GM stewardship, fashion has won out over function in this regard)... wrt avoiding cracks, garaging is good (the 1989 has 2 very tiny cracks, the 1993 has a few slightly larger ones, the 1993 spent more time in the bright sun at work, but both were extensively garaged). Our indy said to use a reflective sun shade if you park it in the sun, which we now do! When the 1989 finally rusts to pieces, would be nice to have some value left in a few things, like the dash!
imho, if I just got an original crack free dash, I'd keep it as is, I wouldn't mess around painting it...
