Ohiowen,
Turn the engine back to TDC, turning it backwards shouldn't hurt anything. Both cams should move exactly in unison. You should have the spark plugs out anytime you are rolling the engine by hand and don't roll the engine unless the chain tensioner is fully installed and doing it's job. When re-fitting a new timing chain there will be a point in the process when the chain slack may be at various locations, some between the cam sprockets and some on the exhaust side of the engine, away from the floating guide and tensioner. It's important to place all the slack under the floating guide (on the intake side of the engine where the tensioner is) before rolling the engine more than a few degrees. You may have to unbolt and slip a cam sprocket off and walk the chain around to achieve that.
