Mitsu Te-05. Lead up to this is that yesterday i was kind of forced to do a quick start-straight to full speed without any warm-up. Terrible, i know, but unavoidable.
So, today i come out of town, give it a squeeze for the hill, and nothing! Boost needle sits at bottom of 'neutral' point, with little power. Strange, me thinks. So i back off, clutch in, quick rev, clutch out, squeeze again-boost is back! When i let engine/turbo wind down i hear a bearing noise briefly-kind of like when a pulley wheel suddenly starts shaking as it finds it's resonant frequency with a bad bearing. Almost sounded like a loud 'hoot', but not quite. Boost was then either working or not the rest of the way home (3 miles). No inbetween-just 100% normal or nothing. Get home, pop hood, all looks good-except when i give a rev, small puff of smoke at the turbo, and that bearing noise is fairly loud over by the turbo area (only when idling back down after a rev-up, probably lasts 1/2 second). With about 200k on this mitsu, i expect it to be shot by now, but as i never actually had one go on me, i don't know the symptoms. I have a Garrett that leaks at the seal pretty bad, but i havn't noticed any real smoke from this mitsu.

Ironically, i have a good mitsu on the way from a guy in classifieds, and a couple of Garretts lying around, so i'm not hurting for a turbo!

Any thoughts on whether this one would be repairable? I'll be pulling it out later this week-TIA
