I actually did this without removing the knee bolster. I just removed the foam padding that screws on adjacent to the knee bolster and pulled the bolster back a little. With a flashlight I could see the spring clip and clevis pin that RayF refers to. I just held the bolster back and held the flashlight in my mouth aimed up at the pedal. Was a little uncomfortable but didn't take too long.
The removal and reinstall of the pedal is very straightforward. I have little mechanical exp and just went in blind and figure it out.
How do you plan to fix the play where the clevis pin shaft sits in the pedal? I would try to use the smallest drill bit possible if drilling into the clutch pedal. There is actually a tube that is welded (i think) into the pedal that the clevis pin goes through. If you drill too big of a hole (with the intention of using a bigger clevis pin that sits tightly in the newly drilled hole), you can actually push this metal tubing out. Sorry its kindof hard to describe but the bottom line is to try to use the smallest drill bit possible that will give u a snug fit. I actually ended up getting a nylon spacer tube that fit inside the hole I drilled. The I pushed the clevis pin through the nylon spacer.
