Why ramps? I like ramps for quick things like looking for leaks and replacing exhaust hangers.

A couple of things bug me about jack stands. One is that my driveway is black top so I have to put something under the jack stands so I don't dig into the driveway. Another is that they can be in the way for certain types of work. Probably the thing that bugs me the most is getting the jack stand in exactly the right place so when I lower the car and it arcs down the jack point on the car lies exactly in the "jaw" of the jack stand. Its also easier to grab a pair of ramps than it is to grab the jack stands, the boards I put under the jack stands and the floor jack when I need a quick look under the car.

All that being said I do think the stamped steel ramps have safety issues. There is danger of sudden collapse, danger of driving the car off the end, and danger of the ramp tilting and the car falling off if the driveway is not perfectly level (side to side). But I don't think a well designed and well manufactured ramp is inherently unsafe. Also you do have to wonder how safe the harbor freight, made in China, welds coated with 1/4 inch of paint jack stands are.

At the end of the day it comes dow to a personal decision. I was just polling the folks who do see an advantage for certain jobs as to what type/brand of ramp works for them.
