High mileage and oil Posted by PaulS [Email] (#676) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PaulS) on Sat, 12 Mar 2011 19:49:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
To the people below with high mileage Saab, who uses "premium" lubricants (Mobile 1, Red Line, Honda, etc.) and who uses "regular" lubricants? For example I use Quaker State motor oil that I buy in 5 quart jugs at Walmart. My thinking is that since I change the oil four times a year it is a waste of money to use premium stuff. We make lots of short trips and the cars never get fully warmed up, especially in the winter. I worry more about water (condensation) and fuel contamination than I do the lubricant breaking down.
I know these oil debates can turn into a food fight, I was looking for the high mileage folks to give some actual "data". (yes not statistically significant but data nonetheless)
For the record I have two 200K+ Saab and both use "regular" lubes.
