completely agree... the bentley manual is great + haynes is unnecessary. There are a few things in the bentley that are so-so (eg many photos are only mildly useful), or errors/ommisions etc... So when something goes wrong with one of our cars, I first check the bentley to see what they say, then *search* this bb using appropriate keywords to see the typical strategies people here use... if little of use comes up with a search, then asking on this bb usually gets a response in a day or so... Saabnet is awesome! often I will also check Townsend's excellent site + possibly fixmysaab for a photo step by step if needed.

Bentley has a good introduction section to basic car maintenance, including a prioritized list of tools you will need (so you can get most important stuff first, then add later)... I have a small flat toolbox with everything I need in the trunk of my car just in case of an issue while on the road...

still good to have a AAA membership just in case... but you will find you save quite a bit by doing some of it yourself + the knowledge will help you avoid problems in the first place...
