hmm..I found some info here...

There's also a way to pressurize the cooling system w/ a hand pump/gauge, then start the engine and observe the pressure gauge. Fluctuations in the needle show leakage from the combustion chamber and can be pinpointed by disconnecting spark plug wires one by one till you can see the fluctuations change or cease when a specific cylinder stops firing.
yeah, hope it's not a head crack issue man.. but maybe not!
does the temp gauge always rise to the same spot the same way?
maybe...an electrical issue w/ the temp gauge...corrosion, ground? somewhere in that circuit.wait!
Come to think of it i had an 87 8valve w/ crazy temp gauge issues. Wasn't the sender on the stat cover.
i could move the harness connector on the back of that side of the speedo box and the gauge would dance...never could make that go away...
..i swapped gauges w/ a spare to confirm crazy gauge issues on my 78EMS.
unfortunately enough i believe that one is a head gasket leak.
