first, thanks so much to turbocon86 for the thorough response. I'm grateful for help. I've actually gotten all the way to where I need to cut the plastic to get the unit out... but you reassured me that all my struggles were necessary, albeit frustrating...
the car is a manual, which I should have mentioned to begin with... sorry
if there are any suggestions on finding the entire unit at a reasonable cost, I'm open to them...
but that being said, I don't really want to replace it if I can get away with adding an extra switch... I'm interested in the pros/cons, and I know you said I probably shouldn't, but I'm not sure I understand why... or even how...
Arabiflora (many thanks as well) gives me hope that I can still just replace the cylinder (I think I've gotten the correct one already), but I'm not sure... if I keep fighting to get the housing unit out, will I be able to replace just the cylinder and go back to normal? or no?
I should also mention that this is a secondary beach car, and that I really don't mind the idea of using a second switch (perhaps that doesn't even need a key), since I'll really just use the car to cruise around...
thanks again
