Knocking is the issue, predetonation is different and you don't want that at all. Saab stated in one of the old factory C900 manuals that occasional single knocks are normal occurances. A series of knocks, or continuous knocking is what must be avoided and as landjet said, anything that taps can trigger the knock sensor. The sensor is a dynamic microphone and tapping the cable can send the same signal.
