Engine out, steering rack in? Posted by camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from camm) on Sun, 4 Sep 2011 19:55:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all,
I just picked up a '90 turbo cvt. that came with a bad tranny; I have a good complete drivetrain from a '92 turbo to replace it. Old engine is out, new engine is ready to go in. I know from experience with my '83T that the steering racks go, and this (drivetrain out) is a great time to replace the existing unit.
Was this something that was endemic to the older c900s or would I be an idiot to not do this to this car now, at this point? The convertible has 189k on it, and the state of the current rack is unknown - it was the prior owners DD up through 2010, though.
Also, if replacing is the way to go, are the remanufactured ones any good, or will I be cursing myself (and the rack) in a year?
Thanks.
